Will Pilates help me lose weight?

Doing Pilates Can Increase Your Metabolism

Pilates helps to build lean muscle, which increases how many calories you burn daily. As a result, your metabolism increases. Pilates may look simple, but the intentional and often tiny movements increase muscle tone and improve functional strength. Pilates helps you to use your deepest muscles, and research has even shown it improves muscle endurance.

When you look good and feel good, you tend to make better health choices as well.  However the key word is “help” Pilates cannot undo copious amounts of Junk food, you need to be mindful of what you are putting in your body to get the results on the outside.

Will Pilates help my Sciatica?

Sciatica is an injury that results from any obstruction, restriction, or irritation to the sciatic nerve. This could be from a bulging disc( herniated disc) that pinches the nerve or from falling on your bum.

There are many things circumstances that can result in Sciatica and the results are an extremely uncomfortable, feelings of  weakness, numbness, tingling, and burning, as well as moderate to extreme pain that runs from the piriformis, down the back of the leg, behind the knee to the bottom of the foot.

Pilates exercise focus on working in neurtral spine which can be very helpful to someone with sciatica when doing certain exercises, as you will not be irritate or overstretch the nerve.

What Should I Wear?

Wear comfy stretchy clothing and grip socks (purchase at studio).

How many people are in a class?

6-9 people in a class

Can Men Do Pilates?

Absolutely, Pilates is not a “ladies stretch class” and can be very challenging to even the weight trainers or marathon runners.  It can improve your Golf swing, increasing flexibility helping prevent injury and muscle strains and strengthens the core and pelvic floor improving your sex life…

Is Pilates considered Cardio, Strength training or both?

  • Pilates is considered strength training because it builds long  lean muscle mass.When performing the Pilates exercise correctly the muscles are under constant contraction for the duration of the movement.

    Pilates can also be considered cardio workout provided you are focusing on your workout and your movements, ensuring you are engaged and always challenging your body.

    One Pilates session can leave more exhausted than a 10km run…

How long until I see results?

  • This depends on the number and frequency of classes you attend.If you’re coming twice per week (our recommended minimum), we expect you’ll see results within 6 weeks (or less in a lot of cases).

    As Joseph Pilate’s said: “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference. In 20 sessions you will see the difference. And in 30 sessions you will have a new body!”

    Pilates is however not a “magic pill’ and cannot undo what you do outside of the studio.
